2nd Annual Nashville Songwriter Awards

Nashville, Tennessee (September 18, 2019) – Last night, Tuesday, September 17, 2019, the Ryman Auditorium was a packed house as songwriters stood in the spotlight for the 2nd Annual Nashville Songwriter Awards presented by the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and City National Bank.

The top honor of the night, ‘Song of the Year,’ was awarded to Chase McGill, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Jon Nite for “Break Up In The End” (recorded by Cole Swindell). To close out the show, Swindell joined Dillon, McGill, and Nite on stage for a breathtaking rendition of the winning song.

The night kicked off with a special performance of “Coal Miner’s Daughter” sung by Tayla Lynn, granddaughter of country music and songwriting legend, Loretta Lynn, the recipient of the 2019 NSAI Kris Kristofferson Lifetime Achievement Award. Also present to honor Lynn was Kellie Pickler who performed “I’m A Honky Tonk Girl” and Reba McEntire who performed “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” for the ultimate Ryman sing-along.

Stories and performances continued throughout the evening as Lee Brice took the stage for “Falling Apart Together,” a song co-written by White Hat Award honoree U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN), and then NSAI President Steve Bogard and Jeff Stevens brought a special medley of “Carried Away” and “Carrying Your Love With Me,” for the President’s Keystone Award recipient George Strait. Strait was also celebrated with performances of “Here For A Good Time” and “The Chair” by longtime friend, songwriter Dean Dillon.

“I believe songwriting is a gift from God, and I think God has truly blessed all of you songwriters in here. I want to thank you all for sharing that talent with me over the years.” — George Strait

Sam Hunt and Michael Ray participated to celebrate Josh Osborne, the NSAI ‘Songwriter of the Year,’ and Luke Combs was recognized as ‘Songwriter/Artist of the Year.’ Non-stop performances continued throughout the rest of the evening as each of the ’10 Songs I Wish I’d Written’ award recipients were recognized as songwriters and artists shared the stage together bringing unforgettable renditions to the mother church of country music.

Tayla Lynn Live on Today in Nashville 1024 508 Chase Jennings

Tayla Lynn Live on Today in Nashville

This right here. Y’all. I’ve spent so much of my life on stage with this woman. Loretta Lynn. My Memaw. She’s protected me, she’s taken care of me, she’s made me take responsibility. She’s told me to get my butt up and do better and work harder. She’s taught me how to raise my babies and do my work and live this life without my mama. I’m so glad I have this. I’ll keep this video forever. “Just one more time” on stage with her is a blessing every time it happens. And my whole dang family got to be up there. How lucky am I?

The week leading up to Memaw’s birthday party was a dream come true. I was able to go on television to promote the event and talk about my life with Memaw. I was able to sing her songs, thanks to Today in Nashville and The Nashville Palace. Not only was I able to sing them, but I was able to do it with Memaw’s band and one of my best friends, Shelly Fairchild. To say it was a blessing would be an understatement!

If you missed the coverage from last week, you can catch up on it below!

SoulShine: Waverly Tennessee Has A Brand New Music Venue 1000 667 Chase Jennings

SoulShine: Waverly Tennessee Has A Brand New Music Venue

The town of Waverly, Tennessee is a perfect snapshot into a life most thought long gone. Small, charming, neighborly, real; all values that harken back to times gone by, but as neighbors greet one another in the street, families throw celebrations together, and the brand new music venue boasts a “Bring Your Own Picnic” option to enjoy your own kind of supper while music radiates from the stage, these values are alive and well in living color.

SoulShine, a joint venture between Tayla Lynn, Jon Cody Finger, and Robby & Jerri Lynn Sims and Anthony & Kayla Sims, is a labor of love dedicated to the town of Waverly- where each business partner chooses to call home and raise their families. SoulShine isn’t just another jukebox joint ripped from Broadway down in Nashville; the business partners have purposely cultivated a relaxed atmosphere for live performances including an 18+ age limit to promote date nights, a unique bring your own food and drink option, and a wide range of musical stylings in their performers. Robby Sims commented on wanting to open the venue because “live music in a small, up-close and personal setting is one of my favorite things and I wanted to bring that to downtown Waverly.” Jon Cody Finger added that “one of our family’s greatest passions is music, from all sides. Writing, performing, and how it can be used to bring people together [is important to us]. Waverly is full of talented musicians and lovers of music, but it was lacking a place for people to gather and enjoy that music as a community.” With nine children between the three couples, all four business partners understand the need for a place to go out that is comfortable, safe, and relaxed – that isn’t all the way down in Nashville. A main goal of the partners was to create a space for Waverly’s citizens to relax and have fun in their own town, putting their hard earned money right back into something in their community that would be a direct benefit for all.

Tayla Lynn, granddaughter of Miss Loretta Lynn who’s Hurricane Mills ranch is just up the road in Humphreys County, has a deep connection to Waverly and an even deeper desire to give back to the town that has given her family so much. “My family has roots here and my grandparents started a small business up the road, so Waverly is in my blood. My mama met my daddy here. Their love story started in this town. Both sets of grandparents raised their kids here, and my cousins grew up in this place. Waverly is home, and this community is loyal, fun, helpful, and full of integrity. I’m a performer, an entertainer, and most of all a lover of people. Bringing people together in the name of music in Waverly is a blessing.” Anthony and Robby Sims were born and raised in Waverly, and Anthony shares the same sentiment about the town, “I love this small town community where people love people.”

In addition to Lynn’s musical background, the other three  business partners have been involved in music for much of their lives. The Sims brothers grew up in a household with their father playing guitar and banjo, and both play the guitar today. Finger brings a different kind of experience in music: “I have a background in researching how music influences people and how music can be used to link artists, listeners, and brands together. In the past I’ve assisted in building companies that are business music providers, such as Spotify Business. I also worked with Amazon, providing global development services.” Today, however, Finger focuses on their beloved hometown, now running a goat farm and putting the majority of his time into getting SoulShine up and running.

Anthony and Robby Sims have high hopes for SoulShine music venue in the community of Waverly. When asked what their hopes for the future in Waverly were, Anthony commented “I really wanted to provide a place for people to have a good time with great entertainment and to give back to our community,” while his brother Robby added “My hope is that our little venue becomes a sought after ticket and continues to grow. I’m not necessarily concerned with the profit standpoint, but I want this place to become a spot the community is truly excited about.”

SoulShine is hosting artists from all musical genres and hopes to offer concerts on a weekly basis on Friday and Saturday evenings. The venue is open to outside food and drink, so grab a ticket, pack a picnic and your favorite drinks, and head to downtown Waverly for a night of excellent music and friends. Tayla, more than likely, will be there to welcome you with open arms and her thousand-watt smile. Jon, Robby, and Anthony will be sure to give you a pat on the back and a good conversation. After all, in Waverly, everyone is family. Head on down to SoulShine, a spectacular place of community, love, and music, and stay a while.

Waverly Local Band Concert: January 18th

The Least of These Movie Review by Dove

Thank you Dove for the wonderful review!:

When Rose isn’t working as a waitress at Jack’s O’houlihans, she and her daughter Katie live in their car and do the best they can to make it from day to day. Rose’s past experiences have made her fearful and frustrated, and it comes out in her interactions with others, which can be identified early on when Rose serves a meal to Santa Claus in the restaurant she works for and also serves up a piece of her mind.

The film follows Rose and Katie throughout a Christmas season that brings tremendous change to their lives. Katie’s love for Jesus is inspiring to Rose and often times makes her think more deeply about her faith and the way she treats people.

The pair’s chance encounter with Mr. Claus himself set them up to receive more compassion and love in one season than they have ever known.

The Dove Take This film invites the viewer into a story that is not the norm for holiday films, and that is its charm. This is a great film for families to watch and discuss with each other. Themes of suffering, overcoming, generosity, victory, and the faithfulness of God provide a beautiful backdrop to assist families in important gospel-centered conversations that help to deepen one’s understanding of Christmas. It is Dove’s delight to award it with the All Ages Dove Seal of Approval.

Country Music Nation: Tayla Mourns Devastating Loss

Originally posted on by Miranda Raye:

Loretta Lynn and her family are no strangers to loss. In 1984, Loretta’s oldest son, Benny, died when he drowned at the age of 34. Years later, Loretta lost her oldest daughter, Betty, when she passed away in 2013 due to emphysema.

In addition to losing two of her six children, Loretta lost her husband of nearly 50 years, Oliver “Doo” Lynn, when he passed away in 1996 at the age of 69.

But while Loretta’s life has been marked by great loss, it has also been defined by great love. She has dozens of grandchildren, with one of the most famous being Tayla Lynn.

The daughter of Loretta’s son Ernest, Tayla has made it her life’s mission to continue her grandmother’s legacy. A singer herself, Tayla performs all over the country, often covering her grandmother’s famous songs.

Recently, Tayla has been performing with Tre Twitty, the grandson of Loretta’s best friend and duet partner Conway Twitty. Together, the two sing their grandparents’ songs and duets, bringing their music to a whole new generation of country fans.

Most recently, Tayla and Tre performed together at Loretta’s ranch in Tennessee on Saturday (July 7). The concert was a big celebration of Loretta and Conway’s music, and was surely entertaining for all who attended. Loretta even called Tayla while she was on stage to say “hello” to everyone who showed up.

Memaw called in to say she loves ya! #memaw #lorettalynn #herfans

But that celebration didn’t last for long.

The day after the concert (July 8), Tayla took to Instagram to share some heartbreaking news. Her mother, Cindy, had passed away that morning.

Tayla didn’t say much. She simply shared a photo of her mother, writing, “Mama. I miss you so much.”

It was actually Tre who revealed a little more about what had happened to Cindy. In a post he wrote on Facebook to show some love to Tayla, he said that Cindy had passed away in her sleep.

“We were all cuttin up out at Loretta’s Saturday night, and she passed away in her sleep a few hours later,” he wrote. “Life can change so soon.”

Our prayers go out to Tayla and her family as they mourn the devastating loss of her mother Cindy.

You can remember Cindy by watching the following video that Tayla shared of her on YouTube just last month. May she rest in peace.

“The granddaughter of famed country singer Loretta Lynn promises: “It’s going to be super fun.”

Tayla Lynn fans attending Friday’s concert at the Marysville Opera House are in for a special treat.

She will be singing a new song from her soon-to-be released album that she calls “probably the most honest song I’ve ever written.”

Entitled “She’s the Blue in My Eyes,” it’s written about the person in her life she calls Memaw, but who the public knows as her grandmother, country music legend Loretta Lynn.

As soon as she finished writing it, she went to her grandmother’s house. “I have to play a song for you,” she told Loretta.

When Lynn got to the song’s tag, “she’s the blue in my eyes,” Lynn said her grandmother held her face in her hands and they both cried.”…READ MORE

4 years ago yesterday I got sober again. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through. After 8 years of sobriety I relapsed for 6 months after taking Vicodin (pain killer) for a c section with this angel. I hold him. I watch the sunrise and silently cry into his hair “I’m so glad I had you Tru. You changed my life just by being you.”

He nestles into my sweater, like he’s done since he was born, and we watch the sunrise. ☀️ That relapse lasted for 6 months and I’m that 6 months I lost everything but when I stepped into my “wise woman” and faced the music 🎶 I got back so much more than I ever had. If you’re struggling with addiction…if you were like me and you are lost and ashamed….it’s ok. You’re ok right now. Tell someone you trust and let’s get you on the road to recovery.

A few hours after writing this post, Yahoo! Beauty published an article on it titled Country Music Star Opens Up About Getting Clean (shoutouts to Amy Capetta!)

Singer and songwriter Tayla Lynn has bravely shared a personal triumph, while bringing awareness to a national epidemic.

The granddaughter of country music legend Loretta Lynn posted on her social media accounts that she is celebrating four years of sobriety — for the second time. “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through,” wrote the wife and mother, pictured with her son, Tru…

We are everywhere. I promise. We have you. I thought I was unlovable and I would never get my baby or husband back. I got so much more y’all, so much more.
